Top-class ergonomics
Interior
One of Volkswagen’s main aims for the Crafter is to reduce driver stress. This is achieved through low noise (a more refined engine and improved sound deadening), and by making the interior a great place to be. There’s also a strong emphasis on ergonomics, specifically the driver’s seat, creating more usable space and three open areas above the large, multi-functional dashboard. The infotainment screen fills the central part; its display is crisp and easily readable even when bright light is shining across it, and the system itself is easy to use.
To support the crew in their challenging work day, the van includes some essential, standard innovations:
• Robust seat upholstery
• Revised instrument cluster and control panel
• Storage compartments for a professional workspace
• Fresh air ventilator, including air recirculation and heating
• Power steering
• Heat-insulating glass
• Electric windows
• Radio preparation
• Door pockets
Optional features include:
• Radio/CD player
• Semi-automatic Climatic air conditioning system
• Front reading lights
• Cruise control
Sporting the classic Volkswagen design with its broader radiator grille, dominant headlight clusters and proud VW emblem, the Crafter looks as professional as it performs.

Strong, versatile and reliable
Looks aside
The new Crafter gives you a larger maximum cargo volume of 5 metric tons, with 17.5 m³ unshackled for squeezing in extra cargo. It comes in three length options with varying heights, while more options include closed body alternatives. Safety features include a side-wind compensation system, hill hold assist – for those treacherous steep angled stops – and an automatic post-collision braking system. A steering wheel with height and telescopic adjustment also adds to driver comfort and safety by enhancing driver postures. More enhancement can be had through an electro-mechanical steering system, Park Assist, Trailer Assist and as optional extras: a reverse-view camera, rear traffic alert, cornering LED lights, adaptive cruise control and EBS. Available passive safety systems include front, side and head airbags for driver and front passenger.
Tackling the toughest jobs
With its 75-litre fuel tank, sturdy frame and amazing loading capacity, the Crafter delivers. It has one of the longest loading spaces in its class (up to 4.6m), so nothing gets left behind. Two rear wing doors plus a left-hand side 1.3m-wide sliding door make loading and unloading from the back a breeze. (You can opt for a sliding door for the right-hand side as well). The flexible, practical nature of the Crafter means it’s open to a variety of roles. A payload capacity of up to 2.5 tons and torque of up to 340Nm means the Crafter is designed to work – and work hard.

With standard EPS, ABS, TCS, and EBD
Safe and sound
Whether moving people, cargo or both, the Crafter keeps them all safe with a driver and passenger airbag as standard, three-point seat belts, remote-controlled central locking and an optional anti-theft alarm. Essential and standard safety systems include electronic stabilisation programme (ESP) brake assist and crosswind assist, multi-collision braking (MCB), traction control system (TCS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD). This rugged van is also fitted with a full-metal partition without a window, separating the cab from the freight in the load compartment, which is equipped with the standard lashing to secure your load using tie-down belts. The lashing eyes have a strong retention force of 500daN(kgs). There are 10 lashing eyes in the medium wheelbase version of the Crafter, 12 in the long wheelbase and 14 in the long wheelbase with extended rear overhang. Two of the foldable lashing eyes are in the B-pillars.
Behind the wheel
The Crafter is surprisingly dynamic for a large van. Its steering is fast and responsive, and the smooth ride improves with a load in the back. The new steering allows a range of driver assistance functions, driver attention monitoring, lane-keeping assistance, parking assistance and trailer assistance.
